The New Rules of Wedding Registries

Gone are the days of a registry that only includes the likes of linens and china. A modern approach allows you to think practically about what you want and need as you set out in your newlywed life (and let’s be real: there’s always room for gorgeous tableware and hotel-quality sheets!). Below, three ideas to keep in mind as you craft your wish list.

Shop Smart

If a traditional registry is more your style but you have no idea where to start, take note of your habits and how you typically spend a day. If you always grab a latte on the way to work, a chic pair of travel mugs makes more sense than a deluxe coffee maker. If you love hosting dinner parties, focus your wish list on pretty items that’ll make your job easier, like beautiful oven-to-table dishes, reusable menus and centerpiece candle holders and vases you can easily mix-and-match. Also think about where you spend the most time in your home: Downy soft bedding and a gorgeous set of lamps for your nightstands will ensure you always wake up on the right side of the bed. Work from home? Consider desk accessories, like trays or a cute pillow that lends lumbar support, to elevate your personal corner office. We love to peruse Over the Moon and Slowdance for luxury inspiration and ideas. And our new shop, Rebecca Rose at Home allows you to enjoy our distinct style long after your vows— our stationery collections feature original artwork and are available exclusively in our shop.

Consider Cash Funds

For starters, it’s important to ask yourself if you really want a traditional registry. Perhaps you and your future spouse are already living together with furnishings you love. Or maybe you’re moving into your first shared home together and you have more than enough to deck out the new abode between the two of you. If so, a cash fund is a great choice. But it can be awkward - even crass - to ask for cash. To make it feel personal, give your guests personalized options! A Honeyfund lets guests assist with honeymoon expenses, and you can add specific experiences (i.e., a cooking class, couples’ massage or sailing excursion during your stay). You can also create funds for future projects like a down payment on a home, a home renovation or funds you’ll put towards new furniture. These separate buckets will make their contributions feel like an extra-special gift.

Share the Love

For a high-impact option, add charitable donations to your wish list. If you have what you need at home—or you just want to spread the joyful spirit far and wide—add one or two organizations that hold a special place in your heart to your registry. It’s an excellent way to honor a late loved one, or support a cause you and your partner have been involved with throughout the years. You get to give back to organizations that are near and dear to your hearts, and it’ll also help your guests get to know your interests and passions better.
