Our Favorite Rom Coms

As we prepare for the upcoming OSCARS on March 27th, our office has been full of reminiscing about a few of our favorite films from the past. Next time you’re in need of a feel good flick, grab the popcorn and choose from one of our rom com recommendations!

IZZIE’S MOVIE: About Time

"I just try to live every day as if I've deliberately come back to this one day, to enjoy it, as if it was the full final day of my extraordinary, ordinary life."

This movie has it all: time travel, beautiful family dynamics, and most importantly, a great love story. It makes you realize the most wonderful things in life can be missed if you don't slow down to simply enjoy them.

CC’S MOVIE: Crazy Stupid Love

“You play to your strengths, pal. That’s all any of us can do.”

This movie is a sleeper hit that has so many traits any great rom-com must have: hilarious one-liners, an all-star cast and of course, Ryan Gosling. In all seriousness, the way that all the love stories in this film, both romantic and familial, are woven together make for a hysterical and also heart-warming film that will forever be in my DVD collection. (Yes, I still have a DVD collection!)

ALLISON’S MOVIE: Clueless

Heather Beerman Photography

"To thine own self be true."

This is not only from a funny moment when Cher corrects Josh's girlfriend that these words were spoken by Polonius and NOT Hamlet, it is also a perfect summary of the lesson from this movie. A reminder to be true to yourself and genuinely support those around you rather than trying to live up to other people's expectations.

BETSY’S MOVIE: Legally Blond

“Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed.”

Being yourself is always the best choice - you can wear bright colors, have a bubbly personality, value a good manicure, and still be a super smart, powerful female capable of anything - plus that soundtrack still gets me going!

BECCA’S MOVIE: It’s Complicated

“I don’t regret giving it another shot.”

Two words: Nancy Meyers. Everything she touches is pure gold, and this film is my absolute favorite of hers. I love how the stunning visual design elements are so deeply woven into the story. There are literally times that the sight of the ocean takes your breath away, and moments when you can actually smell fresh pastries and coffee brewing as you take in the scenes that unfold in Jane’s bakery.  This is a story about a woman who has built an incredible business, raised three children, lost and found the love of her life more than once, and learned to thrive. Every time I watch it, it’s a sure bet that I’m going to laugh so hard I cry, and cry so hard that I laugh. What’s not to love about a cast that includes Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, and John Krasinski? I’ll watch this one a thousand times and never grow sick of it.

Cheers! Team RRE
