Meet Jennie, our Spring Student Intern
Friends, I’m thrilled to introduce you to the newest member of our Rebecca Rose family, Jennie Shumaker. As our spring intern, Jennie spends her week with us in the design studio learning the ins and outs of event planning and design as the final semester as an undergraduate Hospitality student. I recently sat down with her for a little interview and am thrilled to share some fun facts about her!
What’s your story? Where are you from and where do you want to go?
I was born and raised in Midlothian, Virginia but since I have not encountered many people who know where that is located I just tell people I’m from Richmond, Virginia. I like to consider myself a true RVA girl anyway. I’m a dedicated member of the amazing sorority Alpha Chi Omega, and I am wistfully finishing my senior year at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and trying to figure out where life will take me after graduation.
Weddings and special events have been my dream since I was a flower girl in my cousin’s wedding when I was about six. Ironically, I cried afterward because I only threw petals on one side of the aisle and thought I had ruined the whole day. Who knew that that day would dictate what I wanted to do for the rest of my life?
What are your most favorite things?
My family means everything to me! I love my Mom and Dad to Pluto and back, and if you spend any time with me you'll hear me constantly bragging about my amazing two older brothers Scott and Grant, who are my heroes. Although if you talk to them they will probably tell you I’m their annoying little sister, but they love me, I promise.
I’m obsessed with cats, it’s gotten to the point where I sharply inhale, my heart races, and I squeal with excitement whenever I see one. I constantly take pictures of my cat Tiger because he is definitely the cutest little fur ball ever. However I’m not just a cat person, I also love dogs, especially dachshunds.
Spring and summer are my favorite seasons! I thrive in warm weather and despise being cold. However, I enjoy sweater weather as long as I don’t need to wear a parka over it. Burr!

What fuels you? What do you do for fun?
I like to consider myself a foodie because I love trying new, local, and unique restaurants but I have to admit I’m actually a picky eater. I love trying IPAs with my Dad and enjoying a nice glass of wine with my Mom.
When it comes to entertainment, I believe Netflix was the best invention ever. I could watch movies all day if I had the time, currently re-watching Gilmore Girls. I love learning the behind the scenes facts about movies, TV shows, and the actors. My favorite genres of movies are romantic comedies, action, drama, and old musicals. Really, I’ll watch anything as long as it isn’t a horror movie!
Music fuels my life! I grew up in a very musical family. My parents met in the Richmond Concert Band, my brother Scott plays basically every instrument, and Grant played the clarinet. Unfortunately I barely mastered the recorder in elementary school. I used to be able to sing, but somehow through the years I’ve lost that ability. However, that doesn’t stop me from belting out my favorite songs in my car or shower. I grew up listening to the oldies and now I listen to just about everything.
I am so very excited to be a part of the amazing Rebecca Rose team and can’t wait for all that I will learn on this journey. Thank you for letting me share a little about myself with you. I hope I get to meet you all very soon!
A special thanks to Jennie for sharing! We are so proud of her and can’t wait to see her do big things after graduation!
