5 Things I Learned in My First Year at Rebecca Rose Events: Elizabeth Bruce, Studio Manager

When I was asked to share what I’ve learned after my first year on the Rebecca Rose Events team, I was excited for the opportunity to think back on what has been a very full year - navigating my new role, a global pandemic, and motherhood. My husband and I welcomed our beautiful Ella Grace into the world this past February, and as I’ve watched her grow and change all too quickly, I’m reminded of just how much has happened in this first year and am thrilled to reflect on the top 5 things I’ve learned below.

5 Things I’ve Learned during My First Year with Rebecca Rose Events:

  1. Never underestimate the power of a team. This past year, I’ve had the opportunity to work with and learn from an impressive group of passionate professionals devoted to their work, their clients, and the timeless art and beauty of celebration.

  2. Before joining the Rebecca Rose Events team, I worked as a wedding and event planner for over six years and prided myself on being highly independent. Working alongside a small, tight-knit group has taught me the true significance of the phrase “better together,” as we each bring our talents and efforts together to create once in a lifetime occasions - even in the middle of a pandemic! I’m so excited to see where this next year will take us!

  3. Work/Life/Mom/Life Balance
This past February, I became a mother to my beautiful daughter, Ella Grace, and began learning the ropes of the work/life/mom/life balance. I consider motherhood and the chance to pursue one of my passions professionally two of life’s greatest gifts and feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to do both. But, goodness knows, like many of the best things in life, they don’t come without plenty of hard work! Thankfully, I have Becca, our Founding Partner and Creative Director, and my fellow working mom to share in the many joys and challenges that come with this new role. The biggest thing I’ve learned is that preparation is key – preparing for the week ahead on the weekend can make all the difference in helping to avoid a mid-week meltdown (for mom, that is).

3. Details, details, details.

Though my background is in the wedding and events industry, the phrase “details matter” has taken on a whole new meaning since joining the RRE team and learning the Rebecca Rose Events process. Our unique planning and design approach brings to life celebrations that are truly reflective of each of our clients and their stories, and I can confirm that “We believe in leaving no detail left untouched.”, as we devote, on average, 500+ hours to each of our weddings.

4. Life’s precious moments are always worth celebrating.

Planning weddings during a global pandemic is….well, I’m not sure I can find a word that adequately describes how crazy this year has felt. As it has for everyone, 2020 has brought an immeasurable amount of uncertainty. Navigating the world of postponements and heartache with our clients is never something any of us imagined doing, and it’s certainly had its challenges, to say the very least.

What have I learned? I’ve learned that small gatherings can be some of the most fun and meaningful. That celebrations can be done safely and responsibly – it may just take a little reimagining. And, most importantly, if there’s something a hard year like this one has affirmed, it’s that life’s precious moments are always worth celebrating. So, let’s look forward to bigger celebrations ahead with joyful anticipation.

5. I have the best job ever.

This year brought difficult and unforeseen challenges. Truly a year that has tested us all. But even in the midst of these challenges, we have been able to witness the culmination of something beautiful and extraordinary - love. Whether in an intimate exchange of vows at a family home, a safely executed smaller celebration, or in the decision to postpone to a later date, we have seen the love and support shared by our incredible couples and so many others. There were countless moments over this past year where I found myself caught in a moment wondering, “How did I get so lucky?!”.
