Maddie Gets Married: My Biggest Takeaway from Our Creative Session
Photography by Hillary Muelleck
Last week, Nate and I had our first official meeting with the team at Rebecca Rose Events! The day was filled with color swatches, Pinterest exercises, Hot & Spicy Cheez-Its, lots of laughs, a few happy tears, and plenty of caffeine to fuel the day.
I hadn’t been a part of a creative session with the team yet, so the experience was just as new to me as it was to Nate. And, truthfully, as involved as I am with the team, I was a little nervous heading into the meeting. Not because I didn’t trust that they were fully capable of executing my vision, but because it meant handing over my vision to someone else to execute. I’ve been involved in the industry for a while now and have had my ideas for what I thought my dream wedding should look like long before it was even in the cards for me (ahem, thank you, Pinterest, for your secret board option).
We’re not in the business of replicating others’ designs, so I knew that meant using my visual inspiration to guide and inform an enhanced design. And it was that - taking my vision and trusting someone else to make it something better - that scared me. My taste is a little more contemporary/funkier than the RRE weddings I’ve been a part of since starting in September, and I was nervous that might not fully translate in the overall design as I’d envisioned. That is, until we met with the team. As we sat with Becca on the design elements, I would show her something I absolutely loved and she’d respond with, “Yes, but what if we did that and x, y, z!” I was so impressed with her ability to tap into my tastes and style and provide a fresh take on my ideas, utilizing her in-depth design knowledge and experience to guide the overall aesthetic, all while knowing what can be executed within our budget.
I left that meeting with complete confidence that the integrity of my vision would not only remain in tact but the outcome of our final design would be better than I could even dream up. And, in turn, I left that meeting no longer feeling the need to consult Pinterest or Instagram for design inspiration and so excited to see the final design plan Becca puts together. I can’t wait to share it with you all as it comes to life!
