Early Planning Mistakes
Planning a wedding is not something most people have a lot of experience with typically. Of course, there are the wedding professionals that work in this industry every day, but for the most part, couples who have recently gotten engaged have no idea where to start when it comes to wedding planning. And that’s okay! Half the fun of planning a wedding is figuring it all out together! While it can be done on your own, you could save a lot of stress, headaches, and avoid costly mistakes by seeking professional guidance.
There are a few mistakes that a lot of couples who are planning their own wedding typically make. While some of these mistakes can be remedied, there are a few that can be avoided altogether with the help of a wedding professional.
One thing that many couples do is book a venue before establishing a budget. The venue is typically the biggest investment for your wedding. The cost of this is going to greatly effect the rest of your wedding planning. If you do not have an established budge before booking your venue, you could unknowingly spend more than half of your budget on the venue, leaving you with a much smaller amount to spend on the rest of your wedding than you probably would prefer (or that you may realistically need).
In my post last week, I wrote about some budget tools available online. I mentioned in my post that these tools are helpful to give guidance, but really should not be used to create your final budget. This is another mistake that many couples make. They use a budget calculator tool as their main source of wisdom for a budget, without taking into consideration the many factors that the calculator may not. Hiring a professional for budget guidance is such a good start to wedding planning! This person can become a resource for couples all throughout the planning process who can help with so many different questions that come up.

Another common mistake that couples make is that of hiring most of their vendors before hiring a wedding planner. When you hire a wedding planner, they will be able to give you guidance on hiring vendors. They can assist you with choosing vendors that are going to be a good fit for your wedding as well as a good vendor to work with. Without the guidance of a professional wedding planner, the booking process can be very overwhelming for couples. Contracts, for example, are lengthy, often confusing, and very important. If a couple doesn’t thoroughly read through a contract, they could miss a crucial detail that could come back to cause problems later on in the process.
While the season of engagement is supposed to be one that every couple can enjoy, it can easily become filled with stress if not managed correctly. While hiring a professional wedding planner may not be something that you think you need, it is absolutely something that you should consider heavily!
