Featured on Southern Weddings | Caitlin & Davis | Old Town Club Wedding in Winston-Salem
Yesterday Betsy shared some fun details from Caitlin and Davis's rehearsal dinner in the Magnolia Room at Wake Forest University (Becca writing here - WFU class of '03, so I have to say... Go Deacs)! Today I'm thrilled to share a recap of their classic southern wedding day celebration from last June, with some more beautiful film imagery from Jordan and Landon at Landon Jacob Photography. This wedding was recently featured on the Southern Weddings magazine blog as well, so be sure to head over there to read all about it in the bride's own words!
At one of our very first design sessions, Caitlin shared the sweetest story with us. When Davis's parents were married, his mother carried a simple bouquet of magnolia foliage and blooms from her own yard. Caitlin and Davis really wanted to surprise his family with a subtle tribute to that little bit of history. We introduced a classic magnolia on their Save the Date (a fun snail mail surprise for his parents when they received it!) and continued to use that artwork in subtle ways throughout the rest of the design process. Yes... I was positively giddy to find such a pristine and perfect magnolia bloom on a nearby tree when the time came to style their invitation suite for photography on the wedding day. That bloom is the real deal in that photo above!
Caitlin chose the perfect blend of classic and contemporary style for her traditional southern wedding day. Isn't she stunning in her gown? The navy Kate Space shoes were an ideal finishing touch.
The color palette was soft and neutral, as we primarily used white, ivory and gold. Bold navy appeared in just a few ways, including the maids' gowns. Isn't this wedding party just striking? Davis and his guys looked dapper in classic white dinner jackets and helped set the tone for the black tie evening.
Davis and Caitlin's first look photos are just so incredibly sweet. These portraits were taken at the historic Graylyn Estate here in Winston-Salem, where most of the wedding guests stayed for the weekend and all of the family and wedding party got ready for the wedding. While we work at Graylyn very frequently, it was such a treat to watch Jordan and Landon pick their favorite photography locations on the grounds of the property. Having traveled in from South Carolina and never been to Graylyn before, they had such a fresh take and chose spots that many photographers never use. I loved it!
The ceremony was held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and once the newlyweds left the church together, the guests made their way to Old Town Club for an incredible evening reception experience. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres were serve inside the ballroom and on the Club's outdoor terrace before everyone was ushered downstairs to a large custom tent for a seated dinner.
As soon as Caitlin selected a beautiful lattice pattern table linen, I knew we had to include that treatment in a few other places because it was the perfect complement to the classic Southern magnolia artwork. We blind pressed the pattern on some key paper elements (including the guest gift box welcome booklets and ceremony program covers) and added a statement lattice wall installation to serve as a seating chart, instead of merely using escort cards.
After dinner, guests danced the night away for hours before Caitlin and Davis were driven off in their getaway car. It was a fantastic evening of celebration!
Caitlin and Davis, you two are going to have such a wonderful lifetime together! We loved getting to know you and your families throughout the year that we worked together and are so thankful to call you all friends still, even nearly a year later. Your wedding weekend may have come together beautifully in terms of design and logistics, but much more than that...it was beautiful because of the two of you and the joyful spirit of your relationship. We love you tons! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your wedding!
